What AI can actually contribute to a lawyer's work
Preparing files, comparing documents and making more time for clients: useful applications that keep the lawyer in charge of the analysis.

Start with a specific task
A new file arrives with a contract, three amendments and several months of emails. Before choosing a strategy, someone needs to identify the dates, commitments and disputed points. AI can help with this preparatory work by suggesting a timeline, bringing passages together or listing questions for further investigation.
The output becomes useful when it points to identifiable documents. A date without a reference creates another search task. A summary that separates established facts from the parties' assertions makes review easier.
Save time where it matters
The benefit goes beyond faster drafting. An outline can help start a difficult note. Comparing contract versions can draw attention to a small change. Rephrasing an explanation can make it easier for a client to understand.
These gains need to be measured within the firm. A note generated in seconds may still require extensive corrections. The meaningful measure is the time needed to produce checked work that fits the matter and can actually be used.
Leave room for judgment
AI can also help prepare an internal discussion. Asking which facts are missing or which objections deserve consideration may suggest useful avenues. It does not establish that those suggestions are legally sound.
The lawyer understands the client's priorities, the relationships between the parties and the practical consequences of litigation. Saved time is valuable when it creates more room to listen, negotiate or explain a decision.
Run a manageable trial
Start with one document type and information approved for that use. Define the expected output and assign a reviewer. After several files, compare quality and correction time with the usual approach. The firm then has a practical basis for deciding whether to continue.
General information. Application to a matter depends on its facts and the rules in force.
