Understand the rule
Many distance contracts between businesses and consumers allow withdrawal within fourteen calendar days. The starting point depends on the contract. Some purchases are excluded, including certain travel services booked for specific dates.
Prepare your next steps
- Keep the order confirmation, terms and proof of delivery. Identify whether the purchase is goods or a service.
- Tell the seller clearly that you are withdrawing, using a channel that leaves evidence. Do not rely solely on refusing delivery.
- Follow the applicable return instructions, retain proof of postage and check disclosed costs. Track the refund separately.
Practical example
Fictional example: you receive a jacket ordered online and change your mind. You notify withdrawal and keep return records. A concert ticket for a fixed date does not necessarily follow the same rule.
What to check
Personalised goods, some unsealed products and digital content can fall within exceptions. For a service already started, check what you agreed to and what was performed.
Frequently asked questions
Does this also apply in a shop?
There is no general right to reverse every in-store purchase simply because you change your mind. A store’s exchange policy may offer one.
